Founded in 2014 by Candy Shaw, fondly known to her myriad of followers as ‘The Balay Lama,’ Sunlights Balayage gained popularity as a cult favorite for the industry’s first-to-market balayage-specific products and tools. The organization has now re-branded as ‘Sunlights’ to reflect the brand’s expansion into all things highlighting and haircare!
According to L.G. Henderson, Director of Marketing for Sunlights: “Our team made this decision because our Professional and At-Home product lines are expanding so quickly, we’ve now evolved beyond the bounds of being strictly a ‘balayage’ brand.
For 2023, says Henderson, be on the lookout for an infusion of bright colors, in addition to our signature yellow palette, as well as a celebration of elevated yet approachable beauty, along with new products like Body Volumizing Mist, 40 Volume Professional Use Suncrème, and more!

First to market in 2014 with its dedicated balayage lightener, Sunlight has been tirelessly spreading its message around the globe ever since, teaching stylists how to earn a better living and live a better life through the power of the paintbrush. Having had tremendous success in getting the word out, Sunlights has naturally expanded as it aims to meet the growing demands of consumers and the marketplace. Hence the launch of revolutionary new products like Moonlights, the world’s first kaolin clay-based foil lightener, as well as back bar, wet line, and styling products!
